Looks as though Yvette may be visiting Fowey after all…..

Well it looks as though all the jesting on my last blog entry has actually paid off!  I have this morning spoken with a lady who is a researcher for the Most Haunted programme.  Coincidentally an advert had been placed in a recent copy of the Fowey Newsletter asking local business and homeowners to come forward if they would like their property to be considered for filming a Most Haunted episode.  On speaking with this researcher it is looking hopeful that the Most Haunted team may be  visiting Fowey in January 2010.  It has been discussed that they will possibly film in the Restaurant, Wine Cellar and on the Third floor.  If and when I hear any more news on this I will be sure to keep you updated, how exciting!!!

As I have often spoken about in the past, life as a hotel manager is rarely dull.  One day we could be trying to stop the pressure vessels in the boiler room from making such a noise that the neighbours are being woken up in the early hours of the morning and the next moment we are needing to find urgent transport for two pilots in order to help them get back to their aeroplane at Newquay Airport.

I would say the part of my job that I love the most is (and always has been) meeting both new and old guests and only last week I was checking our arrivals list and realised that we had a Mr and Mrs Andrew Callis arriving!  At first I had to double check that this name was spelt correctly and once Candace had confirmed the spelling I asked if we could meet to see if there may be any family links.  Although it does not appear that we are related (well at least the last 4 generations) there were some very odd coincidences.  The first was that Mr Callis’s grandfather was called Reginald, as is my Grandad (aged 99!); the second being that my uncle (my father’s brother) was called Brian and Mr Callis’s father was also called Brian.  Although we were only able to chat for half an hour we both found the conversation fascinating and hopefully some more of the Callis family will visit in the future in order for this to continue.

Today marks the end of the Daphne du Maurier week and yet again it has proved to be another storming success.  Many of our guests took in a few of the shows and all were impressed with the performances. Probably the best reviews have been received for the comedienne Jo Brand who appeared in her usual attire of big black baggy jumper, black leggings and (her trade mark) Red Doc Martins.  According to our guests here, she gave a wonderful performance which included both funny segments and interesting life experiences - a really worthwhile and fun show.  We all hope that Daphne du Maurier week continues for years to come.  Keep up the great work!!
