Well that was January!!!

What a whirl wind of a month….

Considering January should have been the quietest month of the year it ended up being one of the busiest months for a very, very long time.

The beginning of the month saw the hotel closing for 7days; this was a really productive time and gave Ray the rare opportunity to carry out maintenance work on areas that would normally inconvenience our guests. It was really odd for me as I “moved in” for the week – I must say I felt a little like the lady of the manor walking around the hotel in my slippers in the evenings. However, at no point did I feel scared – which is a question many of my friends have asked.

The annual Richardson conference was held at the Grand Hotel in early January and as always Alan Wagstaff, our group HR manager, did a fantastic job at organising a very interesting and fun filled few days, with the help of South Devon College Foundational degree students. We were assigned many activities throughout the conference including raft building, superhero creation and juggling! As if we don’t do enough of that in our day to day life!!

We all enjoyed an impressive Gala dinner on the last night with a close-up magician ‘working the room’ throughout the evening. We were a little concerned for Alan Wagstaff at one point as he was the victim placed in the stocks with the Black and Decker saw precariously close to chopping his head off! It was ok though, he lived to see another day – although a few of us were a little worried, it would have made a terrible mess if the magician had got it wrong!

The first Fowey Foodies night took place last Sunday and was a huge success – much to my relief. A number of local residents turned up to enjoy our locally sourced seasonal menu along with a few local people who could help to spread the ‘Fowey Foodies word’. Our next evening will be held on the 22nd February and already the bookings are rolling in. At only £10 per person to stay over for the Sunday night I’m not surprised, if I wasn’t working I would come!  If you want to join our Fowey Foodies then just take a second to visit our website for details.
