Sun loungers! What a joke – But the Irish still know how to party!!!
Well I’ve been waiting for the sign to rush out and buy some sun loungers for The Beer Garden. The ‘sign’ being a spell of sunshine however it’s been dull, dull, dull so far, on talking to some guests the other day I likened this weather to a day in October!
Well enough of the moaning already! We had a wedding here at the hotel on Saturday and thankfully the strong Irish sprit brought out the sun when it was needed most. I have been lucky enough to go to Ireland on two occasions; although they were both to do with work we were able to spend some time in Dublin and more importantly in some pubs. This is where I believe you meet the true Irish folk, my experience was nothing short of wonderfully warm, genuinely friendly and very welcoming and that is exactly the same as the family that were here last weekend. It is always so rewarding when a wedding runs smoothly and an even better sign when both the staff as well as the guests are smiling and enjoying themselves!!
There was allot of very complimentary feedback from many of the guests and the evening was taken to another level when the Irish Folk band “ Black Friday” started up. Who needs a disco when you can have Irish ‘jiggin’ instead! The atmosphere was absolutely amazing and I would definitely recommend this as a truly brilliant form of entertainment for any event, I defy anyone not to at least tap their feet! A brilliant day was had by all….
Well plans are well and truly now under way for The Royal Fowey Regatta 2008! As in traditional style we are leaving the Traders Carnival plans to the very last minute and with the theme this year being “TV Adverts” we have been left a little stumped! One brilliant suggestion was the Skoda advert with our chefs backing sponges and setting jellies to build a life size car. Whilst this sounded amazing, some how I don’t think it would have been practical. RFA Mounts Bay will also be coming into Fowey for the Regatta celebrations and Mr Richardson has been invited on board to watch The Red Arrows display, as the Grand Lady will not be coming into Fowey this year I suppose its not a bad alternative!!!
Finally, today see’s the opening of the Beijing Olympics – This day is also deemed to be (by Chinese people) one of the luckiest days in a life time as the number 8 is considered a very lucky number. Apparently many people have also planned to get married today as well as babies being planned exactly 9 months ago today in order to have the date 08/08/2008 on their birth certificate. Here’s hoping it’s a super doper lucky day for us all!!!
