The latest HOT news from Fowey!!
Well another week has flown by and lots continues to happen in and around the Fowey Hotel;
It has been confirmed that comedy couple Dawn French and Lenny Henry have purchased Point Neptune House for over £2 million! Anyone who has visited the area before and walked to Ready Money Cove will have passed this beautifully imposing building. In today’s local newspaper it has been described as being “arguably the most spectacularly sited house to be found anywhere around the Cornish Coast.” The house has some 38-40 rooms and the drawing room has been described by a former builder as “possibly the most beautiful room I have ever been in”. The house was built using mainly stone in the Italian style and has impressive long arched windows, there is also a truly amazing atrium measuring over 33 feet by 16 feet with a very impressive glass ceiling. Ohh how the other half live… Rest assured I’ll be letting you know when I see them as Dawn French is my favourite comedienne.
Other news in and around Fowey is that our owner, Keith Richardson, had his plans passed for a round house to be built on an area of ground opposite the car park here at the hotel. The plans include parking on the ground floor with three apartments above. Each apartment will have two bedrooms. The shape and style of the building is quite unique and reflective of 21st century architecture, with some councillors welcoming the fact that a “bold” design has been approved.
Our refurbishment is coming along at great speed. The hallway will be completed by the beginning of next week and then the decorating team will be starting on the Drawing Room. I am trying to over- look the fact that the decorators have set off the fire alarms for the second time this afternoon, and focus on the fantastic work they are doing.
Luckily for me, I have the pleasure of working with the company’s interior designer and between us we have come up with some really exciting colour schemes and schedules. I’m beginning to learn that when it comes to the use of colour you should be ‘brave’ and so therefore a fantastic “Shocking Pink” will now be used in the ladies cloakrooms in turn combining traditional chic with a little bit of funk! I’ll let you know how it all works out.
