The latest HOT news from Fowey!!

Well another week has flown by and lots continues to happen in and around the Fowey Hotel;

It has been confirmed that comedy couple Dawn French and Lenny Henry have purchased Point Neptune House for over £2 million! Anyone who has visited the area before and walked to Ready Money Cove will have passed this beautifully imposing building. In today’s local newspaper it has been described as being “arguably the most spectacularly sited house to be found anywhere around the Cornish Coast.” The house has some 38-40 rooms and the drawing room has been described by a former builder as “possibly the most beautiful room I have ever been in”. The house was built using mainly stone in the Italian style and has impressive long arched windows, there is also a truly amazing atrium measuring over 33 feet by 16 feet with a very impressive glass ceiling. Ohh how the other half live… Rest assured I’ll be letting you know when I see them as Dawn French is my favourite comedienne.

Other news in and around Fowey is that our owner, Keith Richardson, had his plans passed for a round house to be built on an area of ground opposite the car park here at the hotel. The plans include parking on the ground floor with three apartments above. Each apartment will have two bedrooms. The shape and style of the building is quite unique and reflective of 21st century architecture, with some councillors welcoming the fact that a “bold” design has been approved.

Our refurbishment is coming along at great speed. The hallway will be completed by the beginning of next week and then the decorating team will be starting on the Drawing Room. I am trying to over- look the fact that the decorators have set off the fire alarms for the second time this afternoon, and focus on the fantastic work they are doing.

Luckily for me, I have the pleasure of working with the company’s interior designer and between us we have come up with some really exciting colour schemes and schedules. I’m beginning to learn that when it comes to the use of colour you should be ‘brave’ and so therefore a fantastic “Shocking Pink” will now be used in the ladies cloakrooms in turn combining traditional chic with a little bit of funk! I’ll let you know how it all works out.

Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Fowey Hotel Blog readers!!! I was heartened to learn over the festive season that my blog is regularly read by a number of the sites visitors, to those of you who have mentioned this to me, many thanks.

The hotel’s New Year Celebrations were a great success with the table magician causing quite a stir with his tricks, leaving the guests in a spin as to “how he did that!”. His slight of hand was quite amazing, leaving all of us astonished as to how he could have known in advance what he knew (comparable I thought to David Blaine himself)!!

As with Christmas the food was plentiful and delicious with many guests feeling another 3-5lbs heavier after the 2/3 days. Let’s hope that New Years resolutions are still holding strong!!!

The New Years Day Laser Clay Pigeon shooting was such fun. In fact I think I have discovered a new talent!! All I did was aim and shoot and actually did quite well, much to my and everyone else’s surprise! My colleague Candace also did really well and it made a pleasant change to get involved with our guests. Feedback from the day was very good and there were a few jokes flying around about my management style in light of my fairly impressive aim – rest assured no staff were harmed during my training for the day!

That night, we had a horse racing event. This involved an old projector (badly operated by myself) and screen with 8 different races being run (and guests jumping up and down like crazy things whilst shouting for their horse number). My heart stopping moment was when I wrongly loaded the projector and started to melt the film - yikes! Thankfully a very kind gentleman came to my rescue and order was soon resumed. Another comical event involved one of our guests getting so excited that she grabbed the toy Hobby Horse and started riding around the piano room. It all got very silly but was great fun for all that got involved.

Considering the staff were working some of them did comment on what a great atmosphere there was, I suppose it does help when its triple pay too!!!

Happy 2007 all Blog friends, may it be filled with much fun and laughter.
