    Cornish Magnolias in Spring

It has been said that the first day of spring is when all of the 7 Cornish Magnolia trees have at least 50 blooms on them.

In 2015 the first day of spring was declared on the 5th March in Cornwall, whereas the astronomical calendar declares on the spring equinox at the end of March, proving that spring really is sprung earlier in Cornwall!

This little known fact is one that is definitely worth visiting the county as they don’t flower anywhere else in the country until much later in the season.

The almost sub-tropical climate of Cornwall means that gardens are beautiful all year round, however the flowering of the Magnolia campbellii, usually means that the warmer weather of spring is soon to be on its way.

If you enjoy plants and gardening this is the time of year to visit as the Magnolia trees are located all over the county. The 7 locations are Caerhays estate , The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah Gardens, Tregothan, Trengwainton, Trewidden, Trewithen
